          No OSX Drivers
Great printer, fantastic quality but STILL no OSX drivers. I've spoken to Epson for over a year about this, and they still have no commitment to when they'll get it done. Very dissapointing.

          Professional Photographer
I find this printer to be an excellent well made printer. The perfect printer would be one that could print excellent color and Grey Scale.
I have read the previous reviews about lack of drivers for the Mac's and I do not believe that this is true. The printer came packaged with drivers for PC and Mac. Upgraded drivers for both systems are available at Epson's web site. The only draw back that I see about the printer is that there is no light black ink tank, for really good continuous tone grey scale images. So people that do Grey Scale Photography would not come out with gallery results. Color printing is excellent as long as you use custom profiles out of Photoshop.

          OS X drivers
I don't know when the other review was posted but the OS X drivers have been available since 2003. Mine works fine, but a RIP works better.

          Epson printer
This is a printer that I would avoid. I was very disappointed in the print quality of this printer. There were vertical lines in the printout and overall print quality was poor.. I tried all of the maintenance techniques recommended, but the printout was still very poor. This seems to be a problem with many Epson printers. I returned the Epson, bought a Canon and am very pleased with the results.

          Performed beyond expectations.
This is not a technical opinion. I am an amateur photographer with an expesive hobby. I have spent several thousand dollars on a Nikon D100 DSLR camera, lenses, accesories, and software. I normally use a high quality photo lab for my prints because I care about the color quality. I bought the printer to use it for proof before sending it to the lab, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the quality of the Epson 960 when compared to the lab prints. Now, I am thinking of saving myself from going to the lab for my regular 8x10 or smaller prints. In a couple of words, I LOVE THIS LITTLE PRINTER!

          A Thing Of (Quiet) Beauty
After a lot of research, I decided to purchase the Epson Stylus Photo 960 as my first inkjet printer. I'm a web designer who also likes to take digital photos. But until I saw this printer at a trade show, I prefered to just email images. I didn't want to worry about the color matching, the dots or the noise I came to associate with most inkjet printers. Well, I didn't have to worry about any of that with this printer. For one, the color is just beautiful. Second, you would be hard pressed to see any dots (they're like 2 picoliters, which must be microscopic from my observation). And third, this baby is QUIET!!!

Mine just arrived yesterday and I'm still experimenting with various types of images, settings and papers. But I have to tell you: I'm very happy with my new personal photolab. It's the perfect accessory for my new 5 megapixel digital camera. And even images from my old 2 megapixel digital camera still look stunning in 4x6 size.

I'm looking forward to seeing what else this printer has to offer, like the CD/DVD printing capability and ability to print on thicker papers and cardstock. (Of the few papers I've used thus far, the Epson Heavyweight Matte seems to be my favorite. The Epson Heavyweight Matte is gorgeous too, but I prefer my most of my images to shine without the gloss.) This is the beginning of a beautiful relationship...between a designer and his printer.

          Worst Epson I've ever owned
This printer would be a poor value if it was free. The print quality is good and it does not seem to fade like HP ink. The problems are a poor paper feed that routinely picks up 3 or 4 sheets, an ink system that clogs continuously (requiring head cleaning many times a day), a tendency to smear ink on the pages, and very high ink consumption.

Great print quality...but too many other aggravations
First the good news...this printer makes great quailty photo and document prints for the money. For me, that ends the good.
Aside from that, it has many other issues that drive me nuts. First, it takes what seems like an eternity to print the first page. Goes through a bunch of gyrations until it decides its ready to print. Its also very loud, and I think uses a lot of ink (maybe thats why the prints look so good). Finally, the thing jams pretty regularly. Its not a printer you can load a bunch of paper in, print a large document and walk away assured that when you return it will be done. More than likely, it will have jammed.
Bottom line...if you don't print too much and want quality prints, this one may be for you. If you are looking for an everyday printer...forget it.

          Great printer, but childish problems
Great quality, easy to use, great drivers, nice features, no payper jamming (had to study to work with rolls). only one problem, Cleaning heads on generic printing heads may be weekly, but heads so cheap, I wouldn't call it problem, just order pack of heads 3 times cheaper then others

Great print quality but very frusterating..
This printer probably has the best quality of printing photos I have ever seen when you print direct from a memory card. Printing from the computer is ok. It doesn't go through ink as fast as I had expected and the ink is cheaper than I was paying for my Compaq printer. But the huge problem with this printer is trying to feed the roll of 4x6 photo paper into it, it jams up constantly and just keeps printing on nothing, certainly not the paper and the red jam buttom seems like it is constantly on. Also, I normaly have a Compact Flash memory card and it works fine but I put a digital camera memory stick in the reader and the printer refused to work. When I put the memory stick back in the camera it said FORMAT ERROR and all the pictures were gone. Big mistake for Epson!! I liked the printer until that episode. Right now the memory card reader isn't working at all and Epson is reimbursing me.

          The Best Photos I Have Ever Seen. . . But. . .
Okay, here is how it is: This is the best photo printer this side of your local photo lab, but it doesn't come without some disadvantages. This printer does not use the Epson DuraBrite ink, which the Epson C82 does. It does use a five ink system, but it is housed in a single cartridge. That is pretty lousy because the ink tank is rather small. You must understand though, if you have a decent digital camera, you will not know the difference between this and a professional development.

The digital film readers that are included in the unit are pretty cool as they are pretty expensive when they are not in the Epson box. The little read out screen for picture selecting is a bit difficult to get used to, as it is definitely no LCD screen. But, for the price, who would expect a monitor. If running without a computer is a must, then the selection screen is sufficient. If at all possible, use your computer and import that way, it is much easier. There is also a reel on the back for 4x6 paper rolls.

Overall, the printer is rather affordable for the output. The pictures are top shelf and text is almost laser quality. It is well worth the money and puts out better pictures than any machine I have ever encountered. This replaces the Epson C82 as my favorite photo printer on the market.

          epc

Solid printer with great photo quality
With the amount of photo quality this printer puts out, you would expect it to use a lot of ink. Compared to HP, ink is a real bargain.

I first got this printer when my cheap HP broke down after having it for 8 months. I had heard of the photo quality of epson, so I decided to buy one. I was impressed to say the least. It not only printed pictures well, but on glossy paper, I couldn't tell the difference between regular developed pictures from wal-mart and my epson printer.

It's extreemly reliable too. I know this because, sometimes we abuse it by putting in too much paper or accidently printing with the front flap closed. This has caused 2 major paper jams, which, if it were my old HP I would have had to buy a new one. With this epson, however, after removing the paper, it will print as if nothing ever happened. All I have to do is restart the print job.

For $99 I would recommend this printer to anyone. Photo quality is on par with a printer that would cost 3 times as much. Ink is about $30 for a black and color cartridge together. Compared to other brands, it is solid as a rock; at least for now.
