Poor image quality
Scan AwayThe 7400c is large (it does accomodate 11x17 sheets so compact isn't one of it's features), takes a long time to initialize and warm up and still tends to be noisy but the reproductions are brilliant and scanning is a snap.
It sets up in nothing flat and if you can lift the cover and push a button, you can scan. That's it. You can e-mail, import into another program, etc. The software installs effortlessly and it's quite easy to figure out without reading the manual.
HP does not have a 1-800 number for customer support and that should be a mark against them. But, after a long wait, when you do get the staff on line, I've found them on different matters to be nothing short of patient, knowledgable and they always search until they find an answer.
One gripe I do have with the 7400c is: why couldn't they put an On/Off button on it? I can never understand why most HP scanners are designed without this feature. Most of their other products (printers, cameras, computers) have it so why leave it off a scanner?
But that's a small point when you consider that the 4700c scans quickly and easily with fantistic, quality, output.
Works fine for me!?!I wish there were more reviews from others.

Horrible
Horrible Execution
NOT Macintosh compatibleSome people have been waiting months for updates to drivers. HP's suggested workaround is to enable print-only functions by using Apple's newer Jaguar ppd. However the ppd that would enable (EN-able?, come on, DIS-able) the multiIfunction device to ONLY print is overwriten by HP's outdated pre-Jaguar ppd on installation. I have spent a month of weekends trying to get just a single print, on OS 10.2, to no beneficial result. I have gone from clean system installs (in order to recover overwritten ppd's) to the lastest releases of GIMP print and HPIJS and Foomatic printer drivers. LinuxPrinting.org suspects that HP is using an incompatible version of USB communications for printing to this device.
Operating while connected to an Mac OS 9 is (occasionally) possible, but HP states that the 3300 is incompatible with Apple's usb printer sharing, further thwarting attempts to set up an OS 9 shared usb printer and printing via LPR.
Note that any success with this printer on an OS X or mixed environment involves the addition of a network interface (3330 etc.) and not simply USB.
I am now (after 30 days) left to hope that Amazon will accept the the return of the HP Laserjet 3300 mfp for a device that renders toner on paper.

Shockingly high quality for a small priceThis is not the case with this collection. Super high quality studio shots of objects and people. The models do not appear to be professionals and in many instances seem to be grumpy or indifferent, so not many of the people are useful in different marketing situations.
The proprietary software that's included lets you search by a keyword or concept to find the photo or you can browse the high-quality book that's included to find what you're looking for. You can then export the image as a JPG for the web or as a hi-res image for print with a transparency mask for Photoshop.
The objects are top notch quality and can be used by advertising agencies or individuals who need high-quality royalty free photos. Not everything on earth is photographed, but they sure did cover a lot of territory with this set.
Do not hesitate to buy!
