I guess maybe it was my own fault but I assumed all of the new scanners on the market included USB connections. This one is going back! This is probably an o.k. scanner but most computers offer USB connection for plug and play operation and find it pain to hook it up through my printer.

This scanner was a breeze to set up and get going. The picture quality is great...photos scan in crisp and the color is dead-on. Also, it takes up less space than most other scanners I've seen.

Great scanner; beats the daylights out of the one it replaced. Easy to set up; software easy to install and easy to use. First photo I scanned came out great.

At under ($$$), the D646U+BCJ2110 is a great value for money. The D646U scanner installs easily and I had no problems setting up the software bundle that came with the scanner. Scanning resolution is not fantastic, but its still high enough for most jobs that I do at home. The color reproduction is pretty darn good for the price, and the scanning speed is adequate. The scanning software allows the beginner to begin scanning with a minimum of fuss, while still catering to the whims and fancies of the intermediate user (me!!). The Z-lid on the scanner, which raises up to allow you to scan in fat texts is a great idea and works very well. Plus, the styling is nifty and its slim and beautiful on my desk.
The BCJ-2110 printer is also a great value for the money. Its slow, yes... but hey! I'm in no hurry to go anywhere. Setting up the printer and the software is a breeze and the print quality is pretty good. I have tried printing pretty much everything from text-only documents in draft quality to photographs on glossy paper. All of the printouts are pretty good. The photographs sometimes look a little flat, but that can be remedied by playing around with the printer settings and manually adjusting the brightness, etc.
In summary, a highly recommended bundle.

well, i got one of these for my sister for christmas last year and she liked it so much and has told me over and over again how great it is that i am asking for one for myself this christmas.... i have used hers (both the scanner and printer) and havent one bad thing to say about either. the price is great, the brand is great, and they are both asthetically pleasing. definite recommendation.

Overall it does what Canon says it will that is both normal and film scanning in one package with software correction of surface defects. However if you compare a scan of let us say a 4x6 print from a negative with a direct scan of the negative there is a slight loss of detail present at 2400 dpi the max resolution possible. How significant this is to a customer is a matter of personality and need. It is the best dual scanner right from what I can see but as a prosumer type of person I have a problem with that slight loss of detail.....but then again look at the price I would have to pay to get better (ouch).

I have used a Microtek ScanMaker 35t Plus for film and two flatbed scanners for paper copies. The Microtek was a great disappointment that does not perform as expected. After acquiring the CanoScan D2400U, I can get rid of my three scanners and can scan larger-format negatives as well. The speed of this scanner is not the best, but this does not really bother me. At least, a prescan of three 35mm negatives at once do save some preview time. The sharpness might be a bit less than a dedicated film scanner, but look at the cost of such a scanner that can also handle large negatives. With some retouching on Photoshop, the quality of the scans are very good. I particularly like the automated scratch removal feature, which I use all the time for colour films. That saves me a lot of retouching time afterwards.

my old scanner burnt out 18months ago or so.... it was very cheap .. and so I thought this time I'll buy better quality.. not so.. the "film adapter unit" consists of a light in the lid of course and, a cardboard like lid liner two pieces of plastic, (with two subpieces)and two pieces of black construction paper ( reminds me of my youth and being the first one to open the new breakfast cereal to get the punchout toys)Canon decided that one piece of paper would suffice for both 35mm slides and 120 ..so made the opening for the larger and tells us to cut our own piece of paper to fill the the 35mm opening .. the lid liner which must be added for prints attaches through some punch holes that I see becoming unusuable in about 10 removals give or take..ALL THIS at a premium price. and it's SLOW.. as slow as my old cheap model the scan is fairly quick the "light adjustment" time is interminable ! save your money !

Using this scanner with a new 533 G4 Powermac running 9.1. Worked perfectly right out of the box, with beautiful scans and software that worked as advertised, including the OCR. And the slide/transparency adapter actually works fairly well. Scans are quite quick due to the lossless compression scheme used by Canon to speed up data throughput with the USB connection. A bit pricey but I think the quality and convenience of this scanner make it a good value.

You would think when you buy this item, that it would come with a power cord. Well, it doesn't! In other words, I am spending way too much time trying to be able to use it because I can't find the applicable cord.

For D30 and D60 users I believe this item comes with your camera so you no need to get one... however, as a former G1 and current Black G2 user I have to tell you this charger is a MUST! Especially if you have more than 1 battery (personally I have 3).

... OK back to the review, the operation for this unit is a no brainer: plug in the power cord (get one from Radio Shack... duh!) and plug in your battery(ies), go away, and come back after 90 mins per battery (1.5 hrs for both batteries) and you're done. Simple huh? It'll charge one battery first then the other and it'll show which one is charging by the blinking light below each battery bed. So it's pretty much fool proof (well...unless you can't EVEN get a power cord).

One more nice thing about this charger, during the charging it will also tell you how many percentage it's done. So if you unplug the battery before it's fully charged you'll have an idea how many percentage it's filled (0%, 50%, 75%, 100%).

Also this charger is universal voltage therefore you can carry it to anywhere in the world (And THAT's why it doesn't come with a power cord! DUH~~~!) and this baby will still operate with a smile (of course... you will need to correct POWER CORD)

All in all I love this charger so much I wish there is a 10 star system for this review... since it doesn't so I give it a solid 5.
