Quick Install, Beautiful Photos!
This printer replaces an older HP color ink jet for me. Installation was quick and easy using my USB 2.0, the printer is backwards compatable with the slower USB 1.1 ports. The USB 2.0 is about 20 times faster than the older USB version 1.1 ports.

The printer includes six ink cartridges, software, and two different cables to connect directly to Canon cameras but not the needed USB cable to connect the printer to the computer. A nice feature is the included media adapters that will take your camera memory and plug them into the printer's PCMCIA port. My package included a Canon adapter for CompactFlash and another by Dazzle that works for four different types including SmartMedia.

The prints are simply beautiful using the sample of five sheets of included glossy paper. The colors are accurate and sharp. The 4x6 frameless prints take less than a minute to print out, 30 minutes to completely dry and they recommend 24 hours before putting them under glass or in an album.

The printer can be used without a computer connected to it using the LCD screen on the righthand side of the machine and a camera's memory card. The image adapter available for [X] connects to a port on the top of the printer to allow you to preview pictures when used to print without the computer.

Great Pictures
It took a lot of searching before I decided to purchase a good printer and this one is a great one. The pictures are clear and they print fast. I showed them to friends and didn't tell them that I printed them at home and they were very surprised when I told them. Spend the extra money and get a good printer. This printer also include photo ink, which is really needed for a clean print. Make sure you also get the right paper.

Great printer
I acquired an S830D recently.

You don't need the auxiliary screen to print directly from the memory card slot.

To access the cropping capabilities, yes, you need a screen or a compatible camera, but not to print from a memory card. Inserting a memory card (and I've used both CompactFlash and SmartMedia from both Canon and Olympus cameras) causes the S830D to go into a mode that activates automatic print functions on the printer control board. You can print an index sheet of thumbnail images, print all images in a wide variety of multi-print-per-page formats, selected prints using the index and vary the print media and quality from plain paper to Photo Paper Pro.

I have been very happy with both the color and the contrast produced by the printer with no computer intervention.

As for the rest of the printer's features, photo lab quality, good ink economy, fast and quiet operation.

This is the best printer I have ever owned.

Highly Recommended Photo Printer
The Canon S800 exceeded my expectations for a true photo printer. Previously, I was using an HP model that I thought gave good results. However, there was no comparison to the quality of the output of the Canon. Seeing the same prints side by side from the two printers convinced me that I made a wise purchase. The Canon 4 x 6 and 8 x 10 prints really look as if they came from film that was professionally developed and processed.

I have used several different brands of paper with the S800 and I am impressed with all of them (Canon, Kodak, Jet Print). The non-Canon papers do require some driver tweaking but that proved to be not a big deal.

The S800 prints relatively quickly and is one of the quietest photo printers available (good if your spouse is trying to sleep). After pressing the power button, the S800 is ready to print in only 15 seconds. (There is no long, drawn out start up routine.) I also like that the Canon has individual ink tanks. I take a lot of photos of lighthouses (and clouds) against blue skies. So, I was always running out of cyan ink first. Now, this is not an issue because I need only replace that one color more often.

Recently Canon sent registered owners of their 8200 printers free replacement ink and updated drivers. This proved to me that Canon is committed to providing outstanding customer service. How can you argue about that kind of treatment?

Canon printers are also not known to have nozzle clogging problems and color fade issues. I had been seriously considering another brand but I didn't want to risk a chance that my photos would fade or that I would be wasting time runing cleaning routines. This was important to me as my purchase has to last me a few years.

Bottom line - this is a great printer from a great company. You won't be disappointed.

Awesome Photo Printer
After doing extensive on-line research and reading virtually every "professional" and user review available, I decided to purchase an S800. I was also considering an HP DeskJet 960 and Epson 890, but the overwhelming praise for the S800 won me as a Canon convert. We also own a DeskJet 722C (which still does an admirable job on HP photo paper) but we wanted a true photo-quality printer. The prints from the S800 are truly AMAZING. As we are primarily using it for photo printing, we are printing almost exclusively on Canon's Photo Paper Pro .... One magazine review said that the S800 came closer to dye sublimation output quality than any other ink jet printer they had tested, and I totally agree. I won't go into the print speeds - its photo output is almost certainly several times faster than any other inkjet you've ever used. I would also like to mention that Canon's print driver is excellent. Not only does it give you a multitude of print options, but it is fast (at least compared to the 722C and 970C drivers). We are still using a 333MHz with 160MB RAM and making selections in the different printer setting screens is much faster than with the DeskJets. It sometimes takes 5-10 seconds for the driver to process a new selection (such as changing from Normal to Best print mode, or portrait to landscape mode) whereas the Canon takes less than 1 second. While other users with faster PCs may not be able to appreciate Canon's efficient driver, those of us who are holding on to older computers welcome it. I have seen first hand and read about the best HP and Epson have to offer. Anyone replacing a printer two years old or older would be amazed with the output quality from their printers. But, for the very best ink jet photo output available today, the S800 wins hands down.

Nice quality color prints
I have had this now for almost 4 years and it still works perfect. I probably printed over 200 photos already and 100's of business cards without errors.

I had a cannon Multipass that was a piece of crap, way back. I took a chance on this and so far its paying off.

I like the individual ink cartridges!

Great Printer--except for the streaking
The first three months with this printer, I loved it--clear photos and crisp quality. But after that, it went downhill, with streaking on the side. I'd seen this in a customer review and thought maybe they had bought a lemon, but the same thing has happened with my printer.

Other than that, I like the individual ink tanks and photo print quality. But nothing looks good when there is a dark streak across your page!

Great overall printer
After much research into an ink-jet printer that would do a decent job for printing my digital photos, I decided to get the Epson 785EX. I was trying to decide between the HP 1315photo printer, this Canon, and the Epson when a customer walked in and told me he loved the Epson.

Brought the Epson home, and it took an hour to install. Made some prints, and the photo quality was not anything near to the Lexmark z51 printer that just died on me--both in terms of color quality and clarity.

Returned the Epson for the Canon the next day, and love the Canon. I've only had it for a week, but the prints are pretty good quality on plain paper (still not as good as the Lexmark); I like the separate ink tanks (the Lexmark ink cartridges were very expensive!), and it is very fast.

No problems on text printing in draft mode, and the software installed in 10 minutes, no problems. I like its simplicity and it should serve the average digital photo hobbyist well.

unmatched quality-speed-value
The Canon S-630 is such a quality printer, I don't know why anyone would shop else where! It has good speed while printing text or photos. But the best part is the ink cost. I only replace the color I used and at ($) per color or ($) for all 3 colors and the black, why pay ($) for HP's 3-colors, with less than half the amount of ink in its cartridge than canons. You can waste your money if you want, I'm sticking with the S-630.

Excellent quality. Ninja Quick.
The Canon S500 is extremely fast. About 4.9x faster than my Lexmark Z11. This is due mainly to the fact that it's print head can contain both color and black ink at the simultaneously. This means that it can simply use black ink for black instead of making black out of the other colors. It also saves a lot of annoying cartridge switching and money, since you don't need to replace three colors when only one is low. This is a very good printer. It looks kinda cool too.

PURR-FECT QUALITY =^..^= Great Price
My husband bought me this printer. I wanted the S600,but you were out of stock. After reading your reviews I decided to go with the S500. I am really satisfied. Great print quality and I love the individual ink tanks. Being an art teacher I am very particular about color quality..It's PURR-FECT and it has so much more ink. My old Canon printer had the colors in one. I didn't want an HP because of the all in one colors and the bottom loader. I really prefer the top load printer. This runs rings around my old Canon printer. Noise level isn't bad at all while printing. I have printed really....PURR-FECT pictures on regluar printing quality using card stock paper. When you put them in a frame they look like regular pictures. I am very HAPPY with the picture quality.
You'll Love it.... BUY ONE TODAY =^..^=

Great printer
This is a great printer, which is probably why Canon stopped making it. There are no special print cartridges needed to print photos. I used photo paper and the regular cartridges and made great photos. This was the mistake of Canon, they made an inexpensive printer that would print photos cheaply and realized they were going to lose a bunch of money not selling photo cartridges. Hopefully they will make another printer like this. The printing is very fast, almost as fast as my laser, quiet, and of exceptional quality. If you can find it buy it, you won't regret it.

Negative stars for this piece of junk!!!
About 6 months after buying the S450, I started getting paper jams from hell. I called Customer Service and they replaced it with a refurbished model. 4 months later the same problem has surfaced. It wastes ink like crazy and the so called economical ink tanks cost a fortune since I was reprinting pages because of the very frequent paper jams. I never had this problem with my HP Deskjet which I owned for 4-5 years!!!

Sweet office startup
I upgraded and added a scanner in one fell swoop with this cheap and easy set-up. Cannon rocks!

I suprizing package!
At first I was concerned about the printer and scanner, and wan't sure whether it came with all the cables and ink cartridges. I was surprized to find everything was together and everything was included. The S450 printer prints extremely fast, is easy to set up, and last a long time. The scanner is equally as efficent, as photos are exact images. This is a wonderful product.

A PEACE OF [JUNK]!
When I first purchased the S450 it worked well. Then about 3 months later, the feeder began feeding 2+ sheets through at the same time. I exchanged that unit with Canon and within 1 month I started have the same problem with an added twist, ink smuge. Take my advice, RUN LIKE HELL WHEN YOU SEE THIS PRINTER ON SALE!!!

Basically Good Experience with this printer
I purchased this printer about two half years ago from an online
market. It worked for about 2 days, I called Canon and got a replacement and after three cartridge wells exchanges it worked just fine. So, after some tinkering and UPS packages I got mine to work just fine for the next two years. Of course, until last night when my three year spilled a cup of milk into the print bay. I need suggestions for a new printer ;-) Richard

Not a reliable printer
I have had this printer for a little over a year now. I got it ...last fall and hoped to use it for color printing mainly, but also to print small black and white documents (I have access to a laser printer for most black and white). I bought it because of the low priced ink tanks.
What I have found out is that the S400 does not print when I want it to. At first, I was using the parallel port connection (don't even think about doing this). The connection isn't fast enough for the printer and every page you try to print will be illegible. Using the USB connection has helped, but I still throw out about 1 out of every 3 pages that I print because they don't come out correctly.
In short, the S400 isn't reliable. I find myself walking across the building to print a single page instead of trying for 20 or 30 minutes on my S400. Don't buy this printer. It will be a waste of your time and money.

Good basic printer
I got this printer after going through two Epson printers over the years. The Epson printers, both top rated in consumer mags, often produced messy pages with smeared ink. I had to constantly run the cleaning utility. The cartridges on the Epsons also clogged all the time. The same thing happened to my sister's Epson. Too much trouble for a basic printer. Getting back to Canon--this printer has been great. No clogged cartridges or messy pages. One thing--I seem to get better printed text when I select graphic rather than text for the type of print mode.

Canon comes through!
I bought this printer after my old Epson 400 died, and am very satisfied! Driver software offers a lot of control over the printer and even allow for an option to turn the printer on and off automatically as needed. (pretty cool because my printer is out of the way!) Color ink can be replaced one color at a time or all together. Ink is pretty cheap too. Black print speed is great and color is sharp. I recommend it if you want a low-cost alternative to high priced HPs and low quality Epsons.
