Love it!!
I have had this camera for almost 3 years and I love it. The camera is so easy to use and all you have to do is push a button on the dock and your pictures are loaded into your computer. I have had so many compliments on it too, because it's so small and convenient. The only thing bad is when using the zoom option, the pictures come out a little blurred. Overall, it was a great purchase!

Excellent value for money
This has been an excellent purchase. While expensive at the time (euro 500), it has paid off multiple times due to its quality, flexible portability tx to size and pouch and ability to shoot video. Ideally, there would be no need to rely on finding a socket for the dock to download pictures onto computer and there would be no need to send it in for servicing twice ( and now, a third time) due to malfunctioning screen and slot of the extra-memory card. So long as I find no replacement ( why are cameras getting BIGGER these days?), I am happy to stick with it.

Bought this ...Camera! Kodak LS 420
I bought this camera 4 months ago. It is great. The pictures are crisp and the mpeg movie mode is pretty good too. The thing I love about this camera is that is small and you can put it in your pocket and not feel your lugging a camera around. I use it for family and work. No complaints at all..

Best 4MP Camera for price
I bought this camera 3 weeks ago from Amazon (new) with the travel kit. Initially I was looking for a good 3 MP camera but when I looked at this one with great price tag, I couldn't resist. I must say I am impressed with various features it offers for the price. Ok, if you compare with other higher priced 4 MP cameras, it may not offer some of the advanced features but ask yourself if you are ever going to use those features. Todate I have taken more than 100 pictures, with various settings & I must say they are amazing. Camera is easy to operate & LCD, although relatively small, is very clear. Also, I still have not changed batteries even after using LCD screen for most of my pictures, so I don't understand the fuss about digital cameras eating too much battery. I would highly recommend it to anybody looking for camera with more megapixels for less price and easy to operate.

Use Your Money Wisely on Accessories
The DX4900 is a fun digital camera that is especially great for people new to digital photography. I have had the camera for six months and have used it under many conditions, using nearly all of its features. I really like this camera.

I can understand why people enjoy the docking station, with its simple one-button transfer of images to the PC. However, I think the docking station is a pricey addition when your money could be better spent on a rapid battery charger, a backup battery and additional memory.

This is how I handle the transfer of images from camera to PC: I leave a USB cable permanently plugged into a 4-port USB hub (~$ online) attached to the PC. When I am ready to download my pictures, I plug the USB cable into my camera and turn on the power. The images are automatically downloaded to the PC using the Kodak Transfer Software. Why spend an extra $ for the docking station when it is this simple without it?

Battery/Power: I have had absolutely wonderful results with my Ni-MH battery and the Kodak Rapid Charger. My battery lasts a lot longer than I ever expected and only takes four hours to recharge.

Durability: I have used the DX4900 in freezing, wet and snowy weather conditions. I have also used it at high altitudes up to 10,000 feet and have had no performance issues. I'm pretty rough on the camera too, having dropped it a couple of times, but still it works great!

My biggest complaint about this camera is that it takes so long to take high quality pictures in rapid succession. This is a known problem with the buffer overrun that has to be cleared after every couple of shots. The wait between shots can be annoying and I'm not sure if this occurs with other cameras in this class. You can temporarily override the slowness by setting the camera's image quality to "1.0MP Burst", which will allow you to shoot 12 immediate shots in a row while holding down the photo button. Unfortunately, this will sacrifice image quality.

I get some really great results using this camera and would like to see more reviews on the accessory lenses to know if they can add more to the camera's capabilities.

Simple to Use Even A Child Could Figure Out How
I am not a professional photographer and never will be. My life is very active and I needed a camera that is simple to use. If you are looking for a camera that will take beautiful pictures and not have to read the whole manual before to do it, this is the camera for you! The menu is very easy to use and it is a great point and shoot camera if you don't want to mess with changing everything. This camera has been used sometimes daily because I also list on Ebay. The 4.0 megapixels really give it that extra boost in quality pic taking. I also have the Kodak DC3400 and this was an upgrade. Both cameras are great!

Get what you pay for.
I had been looking for a digital camera for some time, and when I saw this camera/dock I thought the price was right. Even though the reviews were mixed, they were positive enough that I bought it. After turning on the camera, which took almost 30 seconds, I shot a few pics and quickly downloaded them into my computer. The dock was very easy to use, although I did have to install the software three times before XP accepted it (XP users must download new software from Kodak's website). The pics looked a little dark for day shots but still they were okay. That night I took some shots inside and I knew I was unhappy with the purchase. The pics came out extremely dark (even ones from close range). I tried again and got the same results. I don't know if I had a "bad" flash on the camera or if that is just the way it was, but I wasn't at all satisfied. I returned the camera and decided to spend a few more dollars on a better quality camera.

A mistake
A nice camera, but that is all, very basic, great outdoor day shots, very poor inside or night shots, where a flash is required. Recommend spend more (wish I had) and get something that can take more acceptable photographs inside where light is not as good as outside.

Very happy with this camera
I bought this camera about a year and a half ago when it just came out. At the time, it was the cheapest offering an optical zoom, which is what I was looking for. The optical zoom works out nicely - it makes the camera have an effective 30-60mm lense, which is nice for distance shots. This camera does take some time to get to know and use properly, but once you have enough experience with it, you can get some good pictures (like through a microscope eyepiece - it was amazing). The outdoor shots are amazing, especially in terms of color reproduction. Indoor shots are variable, but it does take good low-light photos with the flash off, but the flash OK, just gets some colors a little wrong sometimes. The battery life is short, so you will need rechargeable batteries (these were well worth the investment, as acceptable batteries are $... a pair, while rechargeables+charger=$...). As for the camera dock, I think it is the stupidest thing ever and invented just to get more money out of people - YOU DO NOT NEED THE CAMERA DOCK (I avoided purchasing it). I don't even use the included software, I just copy pictures over. The LCD screen is a bit hard to see sometimes, and MMC cards are finally getting more common (I have ~160 megs of cards now, and took pictures for a month in europe on them). Overall, definitely worth the money, especially after I got used to it. And again, it is very very good at outdoor photos.

Spyware and mediocre pictures
Kodak, like Polaroid before it, has had a difficult time making the transition from film to digital. While the company has lofty goals to become a leader in digital media, it is a long way away. This camera has some innovative features, but overall it demonstrates why Kodak is in trouble.

PROS: This camera is very easy to use. It is definitely point and click. Very limited features means very limited learning. It's hard to make a mistake with this camera. It is also one of the lowest priced cameras on the market.

CONS: Pictures are dull and uninteresting. Color is poor, with an overabundance of yellow. The software, which does not need to be installed if you use external memory and an SD card reader, is full of spyware. The spyware monitors your internet usage and sends information about your browsing habits to the company. You have two choices to get around this. First, don't install the software. Or, second, remove the spyware after it is installed with a program like Spybot Search and Destroy.

Summary: For the technophobe, this is a cheap, simple and painless entry into digital photography, but don't expect anything great.

Compare the 6230
I came to this one because (a) I refuse to pay many times more for digital, and (b) I like the review & delete buttons on the back, instead of having to use a menu to delete.

By now the 6200 and 6320 models cost about the same (close to US$100), but the 6230 has 16Mb internal where the 6200 has 8Mb, and the 6230 also allows much closer-up pictures (special mode); so there's no reason to buy this one anymore.

For the price, you just cannot be this digi-cam
1st off, price. This camera is less than $100 bucks for 2-megapixels. Is 2MP enough you may ask? Yes. At least for the avg. joe that wants to take pictures to store on his computer or for fun. I've used this for the past 2 weeks and I love it. My brother can't stop asking me to borrow it. The picture quality is great. It takes pictures at 1600x1200 (I think this is 8x10). I don't really plan on printing any but the usual 5x7 or 4x6 will come out just fine. The video quality however is mediocore. What do you expect from a cheap camera, the best of both worlds? Nope, I bought this primarily for the camera feature and it works wonders. I have a digi-camcorder for my videos anyways. One other thing is I didn't like the fact that it doesn't have a lens cover. I'm afraid to scratch it but I keep it in a case. I know Logitech came out with a cool wallet digi-cam but it's 1.3MP and it's around 70-100 bucks. I'll take the 2MP. This camera is very simple to use as I learned all the features within 5 minutes. I'd recommend this camera for the simple enthusiast!

DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA
I bought this camera during 2002 Black Friday Sale. After one year of regular use (no more than 20 times of use), it stopped to power on. I tried different rechargable battery (including Kodak recommended) and even recharges, but still no good. It has one year warranty, but it stopped working right after one year.

Great camera, but the picture speed!
My parents bought my wife and I this camera as a gift when they found out their first grandchild was on the way. We love the camera and use it often. The software that comes with it is slick and easy to use and makes picture organization a snap.

Just for fun I timed how long it took for us to take pictures of our daughter, load them in the computer from the camera, reduce the size of the image (I take my pictures at the highest quality and reduce the image size in MS Paint by 50%. File size goes from more than 600KB to usually around 60KB to 80KB) and send them in an email. Less than 5 minutes. Talk about happy grandparents! We are separated by over 800 miles so to get near real time baby updates can't be beat

The one any major draw back to the camera is the slow picture speed. When you are trying to take a picture of a wiggling baby it can be frustrating to miss that cute pose you were shooting for. This can be VERY frustrating.

Easy to use camera
I bought this camera with the easy share dock. It is so easy to use and good quality pictures. With the software any poor pictures can be corrected. I had a Sony digital camera which was much harder to use. This camera with the dock is made for the novice user. I have windows ME and I ran the CD software and was downloading pictures within 5 minutes with one button to push. Love it and will use the heck out of it. Would advise anyone to get this and the dock. For the money, the camera takes good pictures and with extra memory can hold lots of pictures. I have 64 memory which holds 72 pictures plus the internal memory can hold 23 I believe.

Good from far...but far from good
I wanted a simple to use camera to take snapshots of the kids around the house. I did not care about printing photos, just wanted to email pics to family and friends. Out of the box, the camera has some cool features such as auto-orientation and the menu is not too hard to navigate. The Kodak software makes the storage and manipulation of the pictures easy, but getting the pictures from the camera to the PC is not so fun. About 75% of the time I have a problem with transferring pictures. Usually a reboot and a disconnect/reconnect of the camera does the trick. I took the camera back after a few weeks and they gave me a replacement and there was no difference. The other part that they do not tell you is that you need to use a SecureDisk card to hold the pictures to make the camera function somewhat normal. Do not rely on the internal memory.

Last night I returned from a trip to Florida with the family and lost over half of the pictures. Hence I am writing this review to warn any future buyers of this camera. There are so many newer/better cameras out there now, I would not recommend purchasing this camera at all.

Has its moods but works fair
The quality of pictures - which is the most important factor for me - is excellent. Taking pictures during a sunny day is a pure pleasure.
I admit sometimes it acts weird when you want to transfer pictures using either docking station or by a direct connection, but i tried both ways - they work fine.
Sometimes I'm having problems when I turn this camera on - I guess it's the batteries - but have to see it again.
And because I live in Poland I'm using this camera with an adapter (220V) and I don't have any problems with power or charging batteries.
In general, I'm satisfied with Kodak CX4230.

Added (Oct, 2003): It turns off on its own.. You have to hit it to turn it on... Poor thing..

My Little Buddy
I don't know about you users out there who are having problems with your CX4230, but me and mine spend countless hours together and the only hitch we've had has been that it was dropped a couple of times.
I've had this camera (and the same batteries) for more than a year now and have had nothing but fun with it. The only reason I give it four stars, is because there isn't a skin (like a cell phone skin) available for it. I'm not too crazy about the camera pouches that are available. But hey, I'm going to give in and get one anyway.
Okay, so the docking station isn't the best of creations from Kodak, but I believe they'll fix that sooner or later. But I don't have to "hit" the camera. Maybe a jiggle once in a while, but that's it. And that is so infrequent that it doesn't affect my love for the whole shebang.
I enjoy this camera. So much so, that when my employer requested that I reasearch and find him a digital camera, I went right to Kodak for the answer and the product. Needless to say that now he is a happy camper with his 5MP Kodak.
Honestly, I would like to get my hands on a more professional quality camera. But that is because I enjoy the feel of the larger format cameras (you know, the big and heavy 35mm type?), but that is in the future, and would only serve for taking those truly professional looking pictures. Everything else is done with my little buddy - the Kodak CX4230.

If it weren't a gift I'd send it back...
Even with the little screen on the back of this camera you can't tell that a picture you've taken is blury. Not to mention it is particularly confusing having a switch on the side to determine whether its in focus for close ups or distance photos. The low megapixels make it impossible to enlarge anything you've cropped to any extent. Finally and probably the worst problem has to do with light. If you are unfortunate enough to have to use the flash, it only lights up the center of the picture often washing out the middle and leaving a circle of darkness around the edge. I was almost broken hearted when I realized there was nothing I could do about this. I imagine that for as much as the gift giver paid...it was probably still too much.

Waste of time, money, and review space.
Unless you're a philanthropist or one of those people who just love pain, don't buy this product. My first use went OK; I was able to send the pictures to my computer with little problem. Finding them was an adventure, but with a little computer knowhow (not available with camera) I found them.

Everything since then has been a nightmare.

I can take pictures, but my computer refuses to recognize the camera through the USB cable. Frustrated after several attempts, I bought Kodak's overpriced camera dock. It doesn't even do the initial charging of the batteries! But that's for a review on the dock...

The pictures it did take (both the ones I was able to get to my computer and the ones forever stuck on the camera) were subpar at best. They were fuzzy, and any amount of light (daylight and lack of) won't help this. The included software only helps if you don't use it. Even the wretched Paint software included on every PC is more help to pictures than the Kodak software.

Please, please, spend your hard earned money elsewhere. This product isn't worth any price tag.

What's with the Racism?
Quote:

'VERY cheap looking and feeling. Every time I flip a switch I'm afraid I'm going to break something. Typical "Made in China" quality.'
-A customer from USA, June 28

I don't think that these reviews are meant for discriminatory comments such as that. I consider that reviewer a racist bigot and hope that his review doesn't influence your purchase.

I received this camera for Christmas last year and have been very satisfied with it. It satisfactorily fills the needs of most casual users. The camera is very well made considering it isn't a high end model. The picture quality is excellent.

The only problem is the battery life. I can't seem to take very many pictures before the battery indicator turns on. There is a very simple solution to this, however. You only need to purchase some rechargeable NiMH batteries. Overall, it's a great purchase.

Convenient, but too expensive
I bought this along with my Kodak DX4330 camera thinking it would be really nice and convenient.
Well, it IS nice and convenient - easy to set up and works well. One touch and it sends the pictures to the computer. The charger works fine too - I think the problems others may have are more related to the battery than the charger. But here are the drawbacks of this product:
1) Too expensive - I later discovered there are cheaper battery chargers (by Kodak as well). They don't transfer images to the computer like the dock does, but I don't think that's a big deal after all. Do a search for 'battery charger' ...and you'll find quite a few good alternatives to this camera dock.
2) They should have had a way to turn off the charger. Right now, when I'm done charging the batteries in the camera, I remove the camera since the 3 lights just stay on forever. I know that the batteries will not get damaged from overcharging, but those 3 lights staying on forever eventually seems wasteful! Since there's no switch to turn off the charger, you have to remove the camera if you don't want the lights to stay on forever. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a dock in the first place where you'd like to just leave your camera in it till you need to take pictures again.

So overall, it works as intended to transfer the images from the camera to the PC, and it charges the batteries fine. But it could do with improvements AND it really needs to get [less expensive]!

Unnecessary but Useful
Creates a convienient way to transfer pictures to the computer with the Kodak software that comes with the camera. More importantly, it keeps the batteries charged. It would probably be cheaper to buy a battery charger and the camera is easily connected to the computer's USB conectors without the dock (a card reader on the newer computers is an even easier way to transfer the pictures).

It is convienient to always know where the camera is, to know that the batteries are charged and to download pictures without having to look for a USB cable but is it worth the price??--I guess so.

Refund acceptable
I purchaced the Kodak Easy share dock, when I received it it did not work. The supplier offered to refund my money immediatly. No hassel. Quite refreshing....

Faulty charging
Does not fully charge Kodak batteries or 3rd party NIHM correctly. You are better off buying a simple NIHM charger for $9.99.

Not recommended
When I first got my Kodak digi cam I loved it! I recommended it to everyone! But now after using it for only a year, when I take it off the docking station, I am able to take only one shot before the camera battery dies. I have purchased a new battery which worked great after the first charging, and then I experienced the same behavior with the battery again. My Dad has the same model with the same problem.
I read in someone else's review that the camera battery will work longer if it's not left in the docking station. If that is the case, then what is the purpose of the docking station? I do not recommend wasting your money on this camera. Especially when the picture quality is not what you would expect from a company such as Kodak.

Now with the EasyShare Camera Dock you now have a battery recharger and the one button picture transfer capability. Now all you need is the KODAK Personal Picture Maker 200 (Outstanding pictures up to 8x10 - see my review), (ink jet printer) ink cartridges & KODAK Photo Paper.
