...this macro lens delivers
I was a bit apprehensive about using a screw-on attachment, and was concerned that edge sharpness, light falloff, or general inconvenience would be problems. The lens performs very well in all of these areas of concern. This is a fine optical addition to the E-10's fixed zoom, one that Olympus has put considerable thought into. It operates throughout the wide-tele range. It does require setting the macro mode in the control panel, but this only takes a few seconds, and then you can move in on subjects, such as a bee on a flower, dew on a spider's web, or the details on a coin. It would be nice if this sort of accessory was a little less expensive, but it is well worth the price, as it comes in a well made case, with a cover that serves as a lens cap when the lens is mounted on the camera.

Macro-mania
This is a huge lens, and that seems right, because it makes everything huge!

This really is a nice lens. The pictures it takes are sharp and really close up.

Cool!

Nice extension cable, Just throw the reader out
Stops working in a matter of minutes. Gets very hot. Extension cable is nice but not worth $20.

Olympus getting it right!
I read with concern the large number of reviews in which users have problenms with flash drives including this Olympus MAUSB100.
Could these user failures be related to misuse or improper shutdown?? Am using it with Win98 and it works just as advertised. I download my photos and then follow the disconnect procedure. Have also uploaded and downloaded mp3 files...again with 100% success. The unit does get very warm and this does concern me, however, being aware of this issue forces me to not leave it active any longer than the task requires. Afterall, it isn't a true hard drive and should be treated with care. Fuji also has a very reliable unit with similar features. I do like this product and will most likely purchase a 2nd one....

Some problems with Windows XP
I own many Olympus digital cameras and accessories, and have been quite brand-loyal.

But I've been disappointed by several flaws in the recent xD product line.

This MAUSB-10 device appears to have some problems with Windows XP. The driver on the CD is not certified for XP, nor is the latest online driver. The latest online driver is dated 2002, and it's currently summer 2004, so Olympus has had plenty of time to create a certified XP driver.

The MAUSB-10 appeared to work at first, but caused blue screen Windows crashes when running Windows backup, when it was searching for backup devices. I also experienced crashes on card insertion.

I have had other USB card readers working well in the past, and I reverted back to them, now the problems are gone.

I think this driver just isn't 100% polished. It probably handles the most generic case, but hasn't been well tested or implemented for the various system configurations.

I might recommend you try the MACF-10 xD to Compact Flash adapter. That allows you to access your xD cards from Compact Flash readers. It seems to work for me, but I'm not sure if there are cases when the compatibility doesn't work.

Makes downloading a snap
I installed this reader on a Windows XP home system. I found that it was necessary to install the software from the provided CD and then reboot before the system would properly recognize the device. After that, it worked flawlessly. The quality of the reader looks very good.

The only negative I see is that the device is somewhat larger than other USB card readers.

Easy to use -- Makes for FAST downloads
I bought this reader/write mostly because I was frustrated at the very long time it took to download pictures from my (Olympus 340) digital camera. This device really makes it a snap, cutting what took five to ten minutes to download 100 pictures to something well under a minute. You simply remove your memory card from your camera and put it into this cigarette-box sized reader that attaches to your USB port.

I had no trouble loading the necessary software onto my laptop (XP operating system) and the reader/writer attached easily to my laptop. The instructions are clear and it is really quite easy to get your pictures downloaded in a very fast time. The reader/writer comes with a CD-disk with software needed to edit pictures.

I recommend this product highly.

Olympus Smart Reader/Writer Review
I received this item as a gift with a camera. It makes downloading pictures to the computer easy and quick. The software was simple to install and using it is as simple as copying files from a floppy disk. If I did not get it as a gift I probably would buy one. There is not a disk orientation label on the reader, so be sure and read the instructions. They are easy to read and understand.

Great on paper, poor performance
I wrote a review of these earlier, where I noted that the field of vision doesn't align. Well it does at infinity, but the near focus distance is entirely overated. I've seen 6 pairs of these so far, and all have the same problem and that is the field of view doesn't align. I sent them to Olympus repair and they say that they are within "spec." The focus knob has also broken free and had to be glued back to the pin. While the optics are exquisite, the alignment is ridiculously bad. I'd say move on to another pair. The Canon 8x32 wp or Nikon Monarch instead.

Great deal, watch for quality problems
I've had two of these binoculars sent, and while I agree with the previous review that they have great lens and optics, I have had two pair shipped (not from Amazon) that have collimation problems. Whenever you buy a pair, always check for this as it can cause severe eye strain as your eyes compensate for this alignment problem. I am going to try to purchase a fourth pair to see if this is symptomatic of the model or where I purchased them.

The best deal among mid price binoculars.
When I tried shopping for a birding/nature viewing binocular with excellent quality with reasonable price, this one and also the Olympus EXWP I 8x42 are both the best deal I could find.

Briefly speaking, there are 5 factors I emphasize on binoculars: 1. power (7-10x); 2. aperture (40mm and above); 3. prism quality (Bak-4 with MULTI-coating, don't be fooled by those "fully coating" lower quality ones, only consider "phase corrected" and "multi coating"!); 4. waterproof/fogproof (most binoculars in this category use nitrogen filled hermetically sealed); 5. durability: with rubber armored and roof prism style.

You can find those perfectly fitting on some Zeiss and Leica binoculars, with price [price]. They are really better than this Olympus, but bet you don't want to spend such amount on a pair of binoculars. Then there were 3 great deal falling in my category: Pentax DCF WP 8x42, Minolta Activa WP 8x42, and this Olympus model. Compared to the other two models, this one is the latest introduced (early 2001) with the latest technology (with UV coating which the other two don't have). The lower price is due to the brand equity of Olympus, which is considered not such a high price brand than Pentax and Minolta in camera world.

1st Li-ion battery for Oly
I measure this battery with tester it has 950mAh which takes a lot of photos than the Ni-MH AA. Just take a 2nd one for travel instead of a box of AA, it is a good idea to come with the new compact Oly cameras.
