Newpic 90 does the job!
This is a great camera for beginners and shutterbugs who don't have the patience to deal with professional photographic equipment. The APS features are fantastic giving you the ability to capture the entire Harbor Bridge on panoramic, and change film instantly while hanging from a ski lift without concern for film exposure or proper placement inside the camera casing. Its zoom lens is quite long compared to other cameras of the same type and price range. My pictures have always come out clear and crisp. Its also very durable and the rubber grip on the side makes it easy to hold unlike other all metal casing cameras. I have even dropped it in a waterfall, and although it is not waterproof and I wouldn't suggest doing it, the camera still worked after the water drained out of it. If you can still get your hands on one of these cameras, go for it!

Great Camera, Glad I bought it
Very nice camera, good quality and a good price. Pick up a cheap APS book for some pointers and don't forget the batteries -- not included :-(

Bargain Price for Above-Average Performance
No problems here. Beats higher-priced similar models from competitors like Sony and Panasonic. The aesthetics/design quotient is a nice extra, too.

Great, beautiful controls... Easy to use buttons, features
The Olympus Microcassette Recorder S711 is the perfect utensil for corporate meetings, fun stuff, and stuff you know you will remember. It slashes a digital recorder, because the simple tapes that you buy may include almost 90 mins. of space. That's 270 mins. with all 3 tapes (if 90 mins. are included) That is even more then some of the digital voice recorders that top $50. This proves a digital voice recorder isn't and wasn't worth my while. At first, when searching I'd looked towards Sony and Olympus for their digital recorders. But that is nothing compared to their microcassette recorders. Sony has been doing well for quite a while, but it is tiny, puny, and not worth it once compared to the Olympus.

Pros
-Large, easy to use buttons. Nothing fancy
-Allows 2 type of speeds
-From a name brand that you trust
-Cheap, but accurate
-3 tapes with 90 mins. can hold more than some digital recorders which top $50

Cons
-Looks aging
-Some buttons are too big and bulky
-Blue, I think not, Maybe Grey or something else

Overall, I rate the Olympus 5 stars. It isn't too big or small, and it is accurate. It allows you to record with microcassette tapes, and has been proven much better than a digital voice recorder. I'm glad that I own it, and I would like you to have it too.

olympus is a good recorder
I got my olympus for my anatomy class and it works great. the only problem i am having is trying to find the in the ear headphones for it. it records great. if your teacher mumbles you can turn up the volume so you can hear him better. Turning up the volume is like turning up the microphone. there is not wind sounding static noise. you can take a 30 min tape and make it an hour by using the 1/2 speed record. but if you want to listen to it on another machine with out this feature it sounds like alvin and the chiip munks. it is small and the blue is like navy blue not that pale blue in the picture. I have seen more expensive micro recorders for more. it is great for college or high school students with out alot of money. you could not ask for a better record quality.

            Blurry, slow, & unstable
Here is what you get: the scope (actually it is a digital video cam that is powered with a USB port) & a software.
If you are like me who bought this one, after viewing all the great pictures on the Olympus mic-d gallery website, then here is what you actually get.
1- NONE of those pictures can be taken with mic-d without extensive time wasted trying to get it in focus, plenty of time in Photoshop, and may be a couple of other imaging softwares.
2- This image is a low resolution (600 X 400 pix.)and of bad quality even for an e-mail.
3- The worst part is the software, sometimes you get half-picture clear, the other half is fuzzy or missing and no way to solve this issue unless you disconnect it from the USB port and start it again. VERY bad software and for those who do know how bad Olympus softwares are, try the ones that come with their digital cameras!!
4- The whole thing is not user friendly and takes plenty of time to focus and zoom in. By the way the +200x zoom is a digital zoom not optical, this is important to know.

In short, this first generation Mic-D is not worth the money you will spend on it, so please ignore it to save your self the trouble of returning it, & I guarantee that you will. Put your money in a decent digital SLR camera like Nikon or Canon Rebel, then buy a microscope camera adapter for it. Microscopes are cheap, less than $200 for a good one that you can fit with an adapter and your own digital camera.
If you can't wait and still interested, go to B&H photography website and you will get it for the same price as amazon. Good luck focusing.
