When my EOS 10D arrived I was without the lens I really wanted (Canon's 28-135 IS) so my local Wolf store let me 'borrow' this as a holdover. I [took] about 400 pictures at a local horse show and was astounded at how soft the pictures came out. So bad were the images that I thought my 10D had the fabled 'focus' issue. I quickly returned the lens and advanced my purchase of a prime (the Canon EF 50mm macro 2.5). Wow - like having a different camera. The 28-90 has a fast, quiet autofocus, but after that the only good thing is it's price. If you're interested in sharp pictures at all, spend some extra money - you'll be happier in the long run.

... ok, it's not the best lens in the world, but you can't find anything cheaper and lighter, and you are going to take better photos that with a point & shoot camera. Experts say that the best way to learn photography is get 3 good primes lens, I disagree, get a very [inexpensive] zoom lens, take photos and look how you use your camera, after that you can think what you *really* need: a better zoom, several primes lens or all. Only when you have enough experience you can choose the correct option.

Canon's 28-135mm with IS (Image Stabilizer) is a far better choice for the money.

We use it with a Canon 300D. It gives good picture quality and are quick to focus. Become a 44-320 on the 300D. A good buy.

From portraits to sporting events, this is wonderful multi-purpose lens. Prior to purchasing the lens, I asked a buddy of mine (photographer for the Philadelphia Flyers, NHL Hockey Team and long time Canon user) if this was a quality lens. He told me to go for it as it is the best buy for the money and that distortion and spherical abberation are extremely minimal with this lens. Truth be told, I've never seen an EF lens I didn't like.

There's absolutely no reason to buy this lens when you can instead get the Canon EF 28-105 f/3.5-4.5. It's a faster lens with signiicantly better image and build quality, and is only about $50 more than this cheap plastic/slower version.

I use this lens on the Canon Digital Rebel. It gives me great color & sharpness up to 11x14. Canon makes better lens than this but for this price range you can't beat it. I'd reccommend it to any one. If I lost this one today I'd order another one tomorrow.

I am very satisfied with the overall performance of 28-105 mm. It focuses instantly and silently. USM is definitely an advantage and that was one of the reasons why I preferred Canon over other brands. The high pitched sound associated with focusing becomes quite irritating even at occasions when you do not need a silent operation. With a USM lens you do not hear anything and this is really fascinating. This lens produces very clear photos and is definitely better than the Canon EF 28-90 lens which is usually sold with the body for three reasons: 1. The grip feels much better. 2. The lens provides a larger aperture at longer focal lenghts. 3. Basically it has a focal length of 28-105 mm (vs 28-90). Even if there is a significant price difference I would suggest the 28-105 mm. You will NOT regret it.

I also bought this lens for my Canon Digital Rebel and i think it is a really nice little lens. it is well constructed with a metal lens mount and has a super fast and quiet USM motor. be sure you get this lens and not the cheaper F4 version!

the Canon 28-135IS is also a fantastic lens but it costs twice as much and is also larger. so if you are in the market for a high quality Canon lens that does not cost an arm and a leg then i would highly suggest you get this one.
