Excellent budget flashI bought this unit over 12 years ago to replace a broken canon specific flash. It has proven to be more flexible than anticipated. Autoflash works consistently on camera, but now has been relegated to background lighting by an optical trigger. In this regard, the auto-off feature is nice to keep the batteries in better charge. It's small, lightweight, takes generic AA batteries and is cheap.

Good that it's been discontinuedThis component didn't work on TWO different computers, a laptop running WinXP and a desktop using Windows 98. I had the correct drivers. When a device doesn't work with one computer, I normally blame the computer. When it doesn't work on TWO computers, I blame the product. I need a card reader but it is very unlikely I will buy anything from this manufacturer. I can't return the bloody thing so I am stuck with it (and out the money).
Very good device, very fast. This was the best way for me to tranfer my photots onto the computer. It is fast, and is very easy to use. The camera (Olympus) I bought was difficult and slow download the photos to the computer so this was the best option.
Look, at the tech info! It's a multi reader that helps you from plugging and unplugging the usb ports. Most computer have only 2.The IntelliFlash USB Flash Memory Reader is a multi-format, memory reading device for that rapidly growing group of Flash Memory users who want to speed up transfers of data, music or images to their PC. In addition, the Viking IntelliFlash is compatible with SmartMedia, PCM CIA Types I and II, ATA cards, and CompactFlash. So whether you're transferring large files, managing MP3s, or working with images from your digital camera, this fast, inexpensive device is all you needInterface: USB connection Image transfer rate: 1.5 MBps PC card types: SmartMedia, PCMCIA Types I and II, ATA cards and CompactFlash LED: Indicates SmartMedia, CompactFlash, or ATA card usage

Worse than useless.Software installed and appeared to run with no problems, but unit would not recognize SmartMedia cards. Worse, it appeared to signficantly damage them via abrasion on each insertion. Vendor will not accept returns from end users, only exchanges. However, Amazon will (thank you!)
Says it's Mac compatible... It's not.Originally, the Viking Intelliflash worked great on the Mac under OS 9.
Unfortunately, the Intelliflash DOES NOT WORK UNDER OS 10 (X). Worse still, Viking tech support informed me they have no plans to support Mac OS X. They claimed it was "Apple's fault" for not providing them all the information they needed - which is kinda funny, since OS X is open source and Apple works closely with it's developers.
Easy to install, easy to use & IT WORKS!What else can I say? Installation's a snap. Worked right out of the box. No hassles. Performs as advertised. It even comes with a PCMCIA adapter to acept CompactFlash cards! Don't hesitate, click the "Add to Shopping Cart" button NOW!

Plug and plea....I bought this product in order to get still pictures from my Sony digital camcorder onto my iMac because the Sony version was hard to get. I also have a Windows 2000 machine on which it worked okay (requires drivers loaded from CD-Rom). On the iMac though it is definitely not plug and play, it often fails to be recognized and the Mac extensions conflict with other USB devices such as my Iomega Zip drive. When working, it presents itself as a desktop folder on the Mac or a drive on a PC. On the Mac it sometimes does not appear or does not display new files. 2nd level Tech Support said I must trash the folder before removing the stick, and must powerdown the machine before unplugging the USB cable, but instructions don't mention this anywhere. Even then I still get fatal Mac errors if my Zip drive is plugged in on restart. All in all, a frustrating product to use, although I've no idea if the Sony version is any better.
Great Product! If you have a Sony or other product that uses Memory Sticks, then this reader will work great for you! I found mine to transfer data easily and quickly between my media and my desktop. The memory fits in a spring-loaded pocket, better than many other readers (especially ones that read multiple types), and it feels secure when connected. A great product!

Do the math.I use CompactFlash for my digital cameras, and I've become a fan of the Viking brand. However, I still buy by the dollar-per-meg calculation. Currently, this number should always be less than 2. It is curious to note that the prices on these cards are fluctuating almost daily, and by as much as 20% in one day! I suggest you find the card you want and track it a while.

Great Item....My school has one of these for the yearbook's digital cameras. Its a great addition to any Digital camera that accepts compact flash cards. The thing that makes this an even better deal is the adapter. So if you don't want to go buy a 64MB with the adapter and you want more than 32mb and the adapter then this is the one for you.

Why Buy This If There Is a Cheaper One!?!Why should you buy this 48mb CompactFlash Card for $59.99 when you can buy a 64mb CompactFlash Card for ...(less at this website)?
Updated Review after some difficultyI had originally purchased this card in late January 2001. I use it with a Canon S100. After using it for about 3 months the card developed a problem. The problem: the camera detected the card as full, even though I had over space for over 250 low res. pictures left. I tried to format the card in the camera with no result. I then attempted to format the card on my pc with no results. I contacted Viking ( very easy to do ) and spoke with tech service. He explained the problem very admirably. I use the card regularly (several times a week) and erase photos using the camera's delete feature, or my pc's delete feature. By doing this regularly, the storage area on the disk becomes fragmented, and makes storing info difficult. The card was useless. They sent me a free replacement very quickly, it having a lifetime warranty. Viking recommends formatting the card weekly if you delete pics from it regularly. This will of course make you download photos on a more frequent basis. So if you are going to download frequently, and not use so much of the memory, perhaps a smaller card is the way to go. So I have begun using the card again, and so far, so good.
It worked like it was supposed to.I bought this for our Kodak Digital camera and had no problems.
