Wonderful Camera
Great camera for price and functionalityBoth my 14 year old and my 10 year old grandsons use this camera with ease, including the movie mode. This does not mean that this is a bottom of the line camera. It is a VERY good camera for any user ablility and age.
The down side is that it is almost impossible to find the accessories for this camera. Fortunately mine came with the AC adapter and the case that actually goes to this camera. I have not seen either anywhere online. There is also an optional remote control for this camera but finding it has proven to be unlikely at this time.
But still; overall a perfect camera for someone/anyone who does not want to take time to read a manual.
Excellent little camera - same model as the V4

I am very suprised at the quality!
- 4.0 effective megapixels
- 12x zoom (3x optical, 4x digital)
- Samsung SHD Lens
- 1.5" color TFT LCD monitor
- Internal memory (16 MB)

Good Pictures - Very Short Battery LifeThe Vivitar did not have 3x optical zoom or macro capability which is a definite plus on the Samsung 420.
On the more negative side for the Samsung, and the main reason for just two stars; a new set of alkaline batteries lasted less than one day, taking only about six pictures. That was with trying to minimize my use of the LCD display to conserve batteries.

Some potentially serious flawsThe camera takes a long time to turn on, focus is not nearly as fast as I want or expect, and works poorly in low light. The manual suggests avoiding that problem by putting the camera in macro and setting distance manually, but for the life of me I can't figure out how and the manual doesn't say. The pictures look of average quality, and I did like the almost intuitive controls, but missed some of the manual adjustments that are present on other cameras, like the A70. I am taking it back, and will spend the extra $$ to get the A70 to replace the one stolen from my car. This one just doesn't cut it.

good but one serious flaw
A Great Camera
good enough for everyday useWhile using it for six months, I started to like this camera for its features and pics' clear color.
Night shot mode makes picture like professional shot.
and I could also send my sister's movie clip to my dad by e-mail.
You can also put 10 shot mode which will take 10 high detailed picture continuously. I prefer 3 shot mode for perfect pose. (in case people close their eyes or red eyes.. or..so..)
Its case is not just cloth made scratch proof one but its very strong that even if you drop it, camera will hardly damaged.
I hope samsung makes it little more cool looking one next time.
Something that doesn't usually get mentioned is the lens company. The lens company that makes this camera's lens is Schneider-Kreuznach, a company that's famous for its quality in lens making. Because of this quality, this camera might possibly give you overall better looking pictures than a camera that has perhaps 5 Mega-Pixels. This is a great buy for beginners and those who love taking quality pictures. There's plenty of information about this camera all over the internet- this should definitely be considered if you're looking for a great camera at a reasonable price.
