Don't buy fhis from Adorama Camera
I attempted to buy this range finder as a gift for my golfing buddy's birthday. I paid $20 in shipping and was told I would receive this product in 1-3 business days. Adorama never shipped the range finder. When I called a week later, they told me they had canceled my order. They refused to send me the product even though they charged my VISA card! They don't publicize their phone number and I'm currently out over $200!!!!

Excellent--BUT
This is an excellent device that gives accurate distances on the golf course. It will measure to the pin, a bunker, or any other surface perpendicular to the direction in which you want to go.

BUT.....

The on off switch is positioned in such a way as to be activated when the unit is in its case. So the only way to prevent it from eating batteries is to either not use the case, or to paste a thick washer around the switch to prevent the case from contacting it.

Range Finder Designed for Golf
My golf partner had this particular model and I became dependant on playing with him. When we were not playing together, I could estimate fairly close to the distance, but sometimes frustrating when I was off. Many range finders that are on the market were not designed for golf, but for hunting. It was too difficult for many of them to determine distance using the flag stick. Before I purchased this range finder, I did some research to find the best device for the least cost, and one that was designed specifically for golf. I first purchased a less expensive model, however even on par 3s, it had trouble ranging on the flag. Not a problem with this model. It is outstanding! Many golf shops sell this model for $400+tax. Stop by a few of your local golf shops, ask for this model number, and check out their price, then go back on line and order one for $125 less. If you want a range finder that was designed specifically for golf, you will not be disappointed. It's a great deal, and worth the investment.

Bushnell Yardage Pro Tour is a great tool!
I bought Bushnell Yardage Pro Tour unit through adorama.com on 5/17/2004 and it arrived with no problems. You get an email with order confirmation and when you log into your account there is a link to ups tracking number. Someone posted a negative comment about them not having a phone number listed but at their site but I see the phone number listed on every single page so I think that that comment is wrong. Their prices are lowest I could find and I had no problems with order/delivery at all. Bushnell Yardage Pro Tour unit is great for golf. It is compact and extremely easy to use. I use it on the driving range with all my clubs. You can easily get a distance for any visible target on the range (tree, bunker, flag, slopes) and figure out the exact club you need for that distance. Knowing the exact distance a ball will travel has helped my game a lot. This unit is the great!

Don't leave home without it!
I purchased the Bushnell Yardage Pro Scout for my son for his birthday and he absolutely loves it. I have a Nikon compact 800 laser rangefinder that I thought was best small package laser rangefinder available, that is until I saw the Pro Scout.

I still like the Nikon, but the Pro Scout works equally well, with just slightly less range capability. The big plus for the Pro Scout is it's size. It is about half or less the size and weight of the Nikon (or Bushnell) 800 compact and comes with a pouch that when it's on your belt you almost don't notice it's there.

If I didn't already have the Nikon, I would buy a Pro Scout for myself in a minute.

Little Giant Killer
This rangefinder is great! Much lighter than the big bulky other units. Has all the great features that is needed. This is one that you will take with you and not leave in the truck because it's too big. I tested this against some of my buddies' bigger units at known distances and this one out did the bigger units in speed and accuracy. Great scan mode. Best buy. Should be sold for about ($) more than asked for.

Not for use in the woods!
The Bushnell Yardage Pro Legend is the waterproof version of the Scout. It is a solid feeling unit with excellent sensitivity. I was able to range on a pencil-sized twig at 60yds. and a 6" fence post at 250yds. IN THE OPEN. Unfortunately, this sensitivity seems to be a disadvantage in the woods! I could not get a reading on a 16" tree at 50yds. because there were some unseen (by me) twigs between me and the tree. The zip mode only works for >150yds. and in fairly open terrain. I will be returning this unit. The Nikon 400 works better in the woods.

not for golf
I decided I wanted a range finder when I played golf with my father-in-law. He had the Bushnell Yardage Pro 1000 and it worked great. Just point, shoot, and the yardage to the hole was returned promptly every time.

I was really excited when I first got this range finder ...until I got it on the golf course. It is much smaller than the YP1000, but the Sport model's superiority ends there. When you are inside 150 yards, it can range on a flag fine. Any farther than this and it becomes more trouble to use than it's worth. You have to hold it very steady and it takes several seconds for the range to register (if it is going to register at all).

This range finder may work fine for hunting, but if you are going to use it for golf then spend the extra money and get a better model. I am currently looking at the Bushnell Yardage Pro Tour XL 20-2025, but I haven't tried it out yet.

Rules of golf
I have been playing golf for 50 yrs. on public (and some private, such as Pebble Beach) courses. Your buyer talked about the "Rules of Golf." First, they have so many rules--most of them stupid-- that the AVERAGE golfer can't possibly follow them. On a crowded public course do you really think you (or ANYONE) can take a ball back and hit another drive. There will already be at least one group "behind" you that you will be hitting into, and one on the tee wondering if you are insane to come back and slow down their game. The "Rules" are stupid enough (ask Craig Statler)for the pro players, but ARE SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR AN AVERAGE PLAYER ON A PUBLIC COURSE. By all means use a range finder if it will help your game. This is especially true if you travel and get a tee time on a course you have never seen before. HOW FAR IS IT TO THE DOG LEG? Don't know. For shame. Get out your range finder and find out what you need to hit. I have played many times where the slightest slow down will get a ball hit into you. I've cured that often if early in the round by taking a 7 iron and hitting the ball horizontally into the woods or water. It is an excellent training device in this era of greedy, uncaring pigs.

Good Value
This is the best value of all the range finders. Some criticize the lack of the scanning mode for golf, but actually using it while golfing is a violation of the rules of golf. It works very well for mapping out courses.
